The impressive FB 1 watches of the Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud
Stemming from a reflective process undertaken in tribute to the horological genius of Ferdinand Berthoud, the timepieces from Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud embody a modern vision of the creations that the master might create if he were still living today. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, President of the Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, wanted these timepieces to represent a continuation of the work of the master chronometer-maker. This was to be done by adopting a contemporary approach guided by the same innovative spirit, while drawing inspiration from the marine chronometers created by the master watchmaker. Housed in an imposing octagonal case with watertight portholes, the Chronomètre Ferdinand Berthoud are equipped with original mechanical hand-wound movements. Entirely independently conceived, developed and produced by the Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud in Fleurier, the calibres feature a tourbillon with central seconds, a distinctive pillar-type architecture, an innovative suspended fusée - chain regulating system and a mobile cone indicating power-reserve.
Chronomètre FB 1R - Edition 1785
Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud showcased the 1785 edition, comprising five unique interpretations of the FB 1R chronometer. All crafted from bronze, they feature a different artistic patina. This 1785 edition honours the most important expedition in French naval history, that of the Astrolabe and Boussole frigates. Commanded by the Count of Lapérouse, they had sailed with five Marine Chronometers on board, made by Ferdinand Berthoud, Clockmaker and Mechanic by appointment to the French King and Navy. During this expedition, the two frigates came close to Japan coasts and made important discoveries and topographical surveys of the area. The bronze of the 1785 edition recalls that of period marine instruments. Adopting a modern take on the work of the master horologist, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud offers a series of five timepieces endowed with peerless exclusivity. They stem from a passionate approach and as ever convey a commitment to eminently demanding quality standards.
