Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud’s longstanding partner Sincere Fine Watches is celebrating its seventieth anniversary this year; to mark the occasion, an exclusive edition of just three Chronomètre FB RES timepieces is unveiled, featuring an octagonal case in platinum and a satin-brushed salmon dial.
Sincere is deeply settled in fine watchmaking retail in Asia and today boasts several stores, including its SHH (Sincere Haute Horlogerie) boutiques specifically devoted to independent watchmakers, which represent Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud for several years now.
To celebrate Sincere’s seventieth birthday in 2024, the two maisons have joined forces to produce an exclusive version of the Chronomètre FB RES.
The movement of the Chronomètre FB RES features a double regulation system consisting of a fusee-and-chain mechanism and a one-second remontoir d’égalité. This unprecedented combination significantly improves the movement’s time-keeping performance in two ways:
- at the start of the gear train, the fusee-and-chain mechanism delivers constant force from the barrel, irrespective of how much the spring has wound down.
- meanwhile, at the other end of the gear train, the remontoir d’égalité smooths out any irregularities in the running of the watch due to gear friction by temporarily storing energy before passing it on to the escapement in equal increments every second. This sequential impulse also makes it possible to have a deadbeat seconds display on the dial, marked out by a long central hand.
The dial, bridges and mainplate have been skeletonised and decorated to further enhance the exceptional mechanism. Particular care has been taken with the hand-bevelled and polished angles – with a total combined length of two metres, these require over two hundred and fifty hours of work in all.
Designed in close collaboration with Sincere Fine Watches, the Chronomètre FB 1RES.3 features an entirely original artistic finish, with an octagonal case made of platinum and a salmon-coloured, satin-brushed dial. Each of the three pieces will be numbered (‘1 of 3’) and emblazoned with a special engraving of the Sincere logo in the nine o’clock position on the case – a graphical allegory based on the symbol for infinity.
“Sincere is one of our long-term partners, having supported us since the launch of our very first collections in 2015. As such we felt it was important for us to play our part in the festivities surrounding their seventieth anniversary”, says Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud’s President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. “This special-edition Chronomètre FB RES reflects that longstanding partnership.”
