Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud is proud to announce a partnership with the well-established cultural association based in Geneva’s Old Town, Art en Vieille-Ville (AVV).
Art en Vieille-Ville brings together 13 prestigious art and antiquities galleries as well as 3 renowned cultural institutions: the Barbier-Mueller Museum, the Art and History Museum, and the Baur Foundation of Geneva.
Created in 2007, AVV association aims to establish the charming Old Town of Geneva as an important destination for art, by building on the diversity and expertise of its members, as well as promoting a selection of high quality works.
In link with this aim, AVV organizes two vernissages, twice a year, each spring and autumn, with the participation of all its members. In the presence of world-renowned experts, each gallery unveils its most beautiful and unique works in either thematic or monographic exhibitions that build on their areas of excellence.
Rare art pieces are revealed from domains that are as fascinating as they are varied: classical and near-eastern antiquities can be discovered alongside modern and contemporary art, decorative art, photography, prints, sculptures, Old Master paintings, 20th century furniture, as well as contemporary jewellery designs.
Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, President of Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud and himself an art collector, said: “It’s a true honour for Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud to serve as official partner of the Art en Vieille-Ville association. Both organisations aim to promote and develop art in all forms. Ferdinand Berthoud was a real watchmaking artist and I came across his amazing achievements while developing the “L.U.CEUM – traces of time” museum we have in Fleurier. The AVV Association appreciates the strong historical background behind the company and its timepieces, including our modern interpretation of Berthoud’s work.”
The exceptional accomplishments of Ferdinand Berthoud in the field of marine chronometry during the reigns of Louis XV, Louis XVI and the Empire period, made him one of the most eminent horologists of the late 18th century. His works are exhibited in some of the major European and American museums, such as the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, the British Museum in London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. They are particularly sought after among experienced collectors.
Karl-Friedrich Scheufele added: “We are very proud to welcome members of the AVV Association for a visit of the Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud workshops and of the L.U.CEUM in Fleurier. These distinguished art experts will be able to share their views on our manufacturing and development process that remains true to the incredible art of Ferdinand Berthoud.”
Marie-Laure Rondeau, president of the “Art en Vieille-Ville” association, commented as well on the partnership: "It’s a true honour to be associated to the Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, a maison that has been gathering an impressive history of innovation, high precision and prestige since the middle of the 18th century. A spirit still present today in the passion and excellence of the entire team led by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele."
Characterised by their common passion for exceptional art, the Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud and the Art en Vieille-Ville association are starting a partnership for three years which will grow stronger over time.
