Fired by a passion for producing unique models, we are determined to continue pushing boundaries when it comes to the performance of our in-house calibres.
By associating history with avant-garde technology, traditional expertise and fine craftsmanship, the technicians and artisans of Chronométrie FERDINAND BERTHOUD give rise to exceptional products.
A FERDINAND BERTHOUD timepiece is the fruit of several years of development and long months of meticulous production. The greatest care is lavished on creating and finishing each of its components, whose beauty reflects the perfection of the movement powering it.
The rating precision of FERDINAND BERTHOUD movements meet the most stringent quality norms, attested to by an individual certificate issued by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute following a battery of dedicated tests lasting 16 consecutive days, performed in five positions and at three different temperatures.
Every FERDINAND BERTHOUD watch undergoes numerous strict and carefully standardised quality controls at each stage in its production designed to ensure its long-term reliability. FERDINAND BERTHOUD chronometers are rare and precious objects testifying to the same passion cultivated by explorers in the Age of Enlightenment, for whom the famous master watchmaker-mechanic produced several masterpieces.
A FERDINAND BERTHOUD timepiece is the result of many years of development and long months of meticulous production.

COSC ISO 3159 chronometer standard
A chronometer is a high-precision watch capable of displaying the seconds and housing a movement that has been tested over several days in various positions and at different temperatures by an official Swiss neutral body (COSC).
Each chronometer is unique, identified by a number engraved on its movement and a certificate number given by the COSC. Each movement is individually tested according to a set of tests specific to each type, lasting several days and performed in five positions and at three temperatures. Each movement is individually measured. Any watch sold as a chronometer is equipped with a certified movement.
The ISO 3159 standard gives the definition of a wrist chronometer with a sprung-balance oscillator. Only movements meeting the criteria stipulated by this norm are awarded an official chronometer certificate.
Movements are observed for 16 consecutive days of a rigorous testing schedule.
- Each day, including Saturdays and Sundays, the movements are measured and rewound.
- Based on these measurements, seven eliminatory criteria are calculated.
- If and only if all seven criteria are met, the movement is duly “chronometer-certified”.
